about

From my understanding, Aaliyah and her crew were warned about how much luggage they were bringing on to the plane prior to boarding. They decided to pack the plane despite the warnings, resulting in the plane being weighed down and eventually crashing. The song "Aaliyah" attempts to turn the singer's untimely death into a metaphor for the baggage we bring in to relationships (romantic or otherwise). If you do not check your baggage before trying to build a relationship, you will eventually cause the other person to crash and burn - hence turning them into an "Aaliyah". I hope this song represents Aaliyah in a tasteful way. I grew up listening to her music and to this day I am a fan. The record is an attempt to take an impactful moment in pop culture and package it into a learning moment for our everyday lives.

lyrics

Voicemail:
You know, that’s my horizon
Thinking that moment back when
She thought oh it’s time to get up
And she just came down for about an hour
I think of a future
You know, somethings that’s approaching
It’s a new day, you know whatever is in store for that day

I turned you into my Aliyah
Sorry that I brought this baggage
All of this crashing that we
All of this crashing that we doing
You talking reckless and I speak it fluent
If they find the wreckage I hope that my necklace is glowing and glowing and glowing
I turned you into my Aliyah
Sorry that I brought this baggage
All of this crashing that we
All of this crashing that we doing
You talking reckless and I speak it fluent
If they find the wreckage I hope that my necklace is glowing and glowing and glowing

Okay the money got plural
Wallet won’t fit in the safe, safe won’t fit in the house
It’s been cold on the couch
Money don’t cover like sitting on a blouse
You would put the money in the bong if I told you
Then turn around like I owe you
Biggie must have been a fucking profit
Stop it, you letting the money control you
I know you ain’t a violent person
You ain’t mean to do it on purpose
I can book a therapy session if you want to
We can scratch deeper than the surface
I see you turned off your location
I can only see you in the matrix
Let me know when the plane lands safely
I said I don’t care but now I’m getting anxious

I turned you into my Aliyah
Sorry that I brought this baggage
All of this crashing that we
All of this crashing that we doing
You talking reckless and I speak it fluent
If they find the wreckage I hope that my necklace is glowing and glowing and glowing
I turned you into my Aliyah
Sorry that I brought this baggage
All of this crashing that we
All of this crashing that we doing
You talking reckless and I speak it fluent
If they find the wreckage I hope that my necklace is glowing and glowing and glowing

We about to crash in the ocean
Aliyah didn’t choose, she was chosen
The money no good when it’s floatin
The boat don’t rock when it’s broken
Brought enough money, we could fill up a mansion
A private jet wasn’t the answer
I think we need a love like Chancellor
Hair falling out like Sampson
Love lost on the horizon
You so high there’s no Verizon
Yelling at the phone like police siren
Celly don’t work on a lonely island
You a long way from Chicago violence
Fashion on a plane, oh you extra fly
Jet fuel in a blunt got you extra high
Every demon in your head getting exercised
Crucified, crash in a suit and tie
