about

By far the most abstract song on the album. Everyone has their "rock bottom". Everyone has felt a weight drag them into a deeper, darker place. The verse is distorted to further invoke this feeling. As I'm writing this, I'm realizing the choir at the end sounds like the coming back up for air after being under water for so long. The beautiful thing about this song, and its writing, is that any lyric can hit you differently at any point. The album thus far has had so much intention behind every word. This record is open for interpretation, and that interpretation can change depending on the energy you are bringing to the space.

lyrics

I found myself at the
Bottom of the lake again
You told me not to dive
And you told me not to swim
You told me I ain’t shit
And I’m proving it again
But why you gotta brag so much
You ain’t gotta brag so much

And I’m calling from the bottom of the lake again

Still smoking and I’m high
I was just calling ‘case I died
And I don’t ever plan for the end, but I know
It’s no coincidence that I came from the cold
Still snowing outside
Guess it isn’t a surprise
Look what you did with all that pride and that self esteem
You coulda kept me warm in my Levi jeans
Say you’ll love again, don’t you play pretend
Just hold me like you ‘sposed to
Just hold me like you ‘sposed to
Say you’ll love again, don’t you play pretend
Just hold me like you ‘sposed to
Just hold me like you ‘sposed to

I got a lot of ideas in my head that I need to get out but I’m stuck in bed
I really don’t care about the things you said
Apologies worth about a loaf of bread
What I care about is how you swim back
from the depths of the ocean that you found yourself at
swimming with the sharks so I learned to bite back
don’t believe in bad luck, went and bought a black cat
I found myself at the --
Creeping down the ave and I’m accident bound so I’m crashing where you at
You told me not to dive and you told me not to swim --
I watch you fill the cup till it’s out of ounces

Why you gotta brag so much
You ain’t gotta brag so much

And I’m calling from the bottom of the lake again

Still smoking and I’m high
I was just calling ‘case I died
And I don’t ever plan for the end, but I know
It’s no coincidence that I came from the cold
Still snowing outside
Guess it isn’t a surprise
Look what you did with all that pride and that self esteem
You coulda kept me warm in my Levi jeans
Say you’ll love again, don’t you play pretend
Just hold me like you ‘sposed to
Just hold me like you ‘sposed to
Say you’ll love again, don’t you play pretend
Just hold me like you ‘sposed to
Just hold me like you ‘sposed to

Voicemail:
I always picture myself sitting at the edge of a dock or a peer
In the middle of a body of water
By the time you get sober
The sky’s always purple and pink and orange
The only sound you can hear is water, tree, just peace, you know
