about

Poltergeist is an existential crisis. It's a discovery of self awareness and being terrified about what you uncover when you start digging in to yourself. The song captures the overwhelming feeling of power you get once you learn to walk with the fear. I am scared of the things we idolize: money, capitalism, our country's history of colonization, approval through social media, the physical body, etc. This song is a realization that I am just a small part of this larger machine we live within - I am equally capable of blowing that whole machine up as I am being a part of the reason it exists.

lyrics

Terrified out of my
Out of my mind
Why oh why
Do we have to idolize
Idolize all the lies
Scary sights
Poltergeists
Terrified out of my
Out of my mind

I needed to hear that I’m not a burden
That I have the power to create legacy
That I belong in every space that I enter
It’s fear that keeps you in the bed
I wake up every day and I take my power back
We are a part of something greater
And I’m in the years of my life
Some words of affirmation
Where I can’t waste time thinking I’m not enough
I can’t die here cuz so and so is waiting for me
So I make great memories
I’m proud of you every day that you breath
I make them for me
I love you death
I prove myself I’m strong
And keep going
Just get through it

Yea, look
Trying to wrap my head around an orbit of thoughts
I never sold my soul, but still feel like it’s bought
We on borrowed time
so when I buy that Rolex with the stone I’m spending every dime
and selling it in heaven just to skip the line
Why you so existential
I took way too much acid
I had to set the bar high because my mama passed it
She could have aborted me in college but she still had me
That’s why I talk into this mic like I’m so fucking happy
It’s never too late to rip up the script and write the sequel
I’ve seen deceitful people turn around and fight the evil
Improve your mental health and how you talk to people
Improve your mental health she don’t have to leave you
And if I let Supreme jackets wallow me whole
Donate my skin and bones with all of my clothes

Terrified out of my
Out of my mind
Why oh why
Do we have to idolize
Idolize all the lies
Scary sights
Poltergeists
Terrified out of my
Out of my mind
